2013 CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS Friday: The Kickoff Friday began with a race to registration. As salons trickled in from across the world, the registration tables were abuzz with eager questions, notebooks, groups in matching t-shirts, and the excited chatter of planning the weekend. Kizer and Bender got the weekend rolling with an intensive seven-hour Marketing Madness seminar that was widely anticipated and attended by motivated salon owners. Their approachable mix of straightforward data, practical examples and humor helped the time fly by quickly. Happy salon owners and marketing managers left the session with a binder full of information and resources to take home. At the same time, many tanning industry professionals decided to develop their knowledge base through the UV Tanning Certification and Sales Training courses. Throughout the day, salons enjoyed spending time with their trusted Smart Tan membership services representatives. After years of phone calls, emails and mail, attendees really valued the opportunity to visit the people who always there to answer their questions and help improve their businesses. To many salons, Teresa, Sheila, Nichol, Becca and Suzanne are like family! But as everyone has come to know, the best part of Friday night is the Kickoff Reception! This year, Sunless Inc. hosted the soiree at the Marriott Renaissance Bridge Bar, which was packed wall to wall! Multiple bars were cranking out delectable libations as a DJ and acoustic guitarist set the mood for a good time. At the end of the night, artist and keynote speaker Erik Wahl arrived, hoping to be a fly on the wall — but our Smart Tan fans recognized him immediately and welcomed him into the fold.
