What 's your job like on a daily basis? A: One of the things I like most about my job is that it's different every day! But most days I work on many marketing initiatives for Cal Tan like creating ads, e-blasts, articles, planning events and trainings, and running all of our social media platforms. I also support our amazing sales team with different projects. And of course, providing support to our customers on everything from product questions to spray gun mechanics. Cal Tan is a major force in sunless these days. How has that aspect of the brand evolved? A: Since the beginning, CT has always been a strong sunless brand. We've been making solution for around 20 years now! We took some time and slowed down our launches to focus on development, like the development of our CPC solution, which now has over 2 years stability. When we slowed down our launches, we also increased our marketing initiatives so that's why you've been seeing sunless more! What new products are you excited about? A: Our new Odor Neutralizer, Color Priming Body Buffer (with increased exfoliation properties) and Color Perfecting Complex® Ultra Dark Clear Solution that we believe has the darkest color right now in the market are some of our top performers right now! The Odor Neutralizer is performing so well because it's a unique product and the first of its kind. I keep a bottle at my desk! We also keep a bottle down in our spray tan room and it's always disappearing because people love to use after UV sessions too. Tell me about the step system of categorizing Cal Tan products: A: We focus on the step system to make sunless tanning simple. We know it can be a bit scary to newcomers or people who have had bad experiences with sunless tanning so having three simple steps for flawless, natural color is a great way to take the fear out of something so great! To bring it back to salons and customers - our approaches, the sunless made simple step system, the wide variety of products and the dual-use functionality, were designed to benefit both the salon and customers. We design our products to be easy to understand, thus easy to sell and easy to use. And the step system allows employees to sell in bundles, which is where salons should start when selling Cal Tan – by getting the customer all three steps. Are you doing anything new with training at Cal Tan? A: We are really excited about the trainings we have coming up this year because we recently revamped our training program. We have made it easier for people with various amounts of knowledge to start off at the level right for them with new basic and advanced courses. We now have an online course, so we can train people where they are! We have also added some special courses for those wanting training in very specific sunless areas like bodybuilding spraying. INSPIRED IDEAS Stepping Up G reat results always come first, but it's no secret that strong branding helps products sell. That's why Brand Coordinator Katie Phillips is working daily to make California Tan "the best brand it can be." The consumer-friendly Cal Tan brand is built upon a "step system" that helps clients envision spectacular results and understand that a mix of several products will take their tans and skin care to the next level.
