President's Message This month, through the ad accompanying the ITA pages, we are thanking manufacturer, distributor and supplier members. We do this each year to highlight their contributions to industry and to the ITA. I ask that you take a look at this ad and thank and support these companies, too. The ITA's only income is from dues and contributions. These com- panies alone will finance 50 percent our mission – making sure government doesn't regulate you out of business. Please patronize these businesses. If a company with which you do business is not on the list, ask them why they are not an ITA member. We are a small industry with big challenges. It is imperative and only fair that companies who make their living through indoor tan- ning shoulder a share of the burden. Rob Quinn President, Indoor Tanning Association Thanks, Rob Quinn CAPITOL HILL – KEEPING PROMISES TO THE TAXPAYER ACT OF 2012 On Feb. 16, another bill was introduced in the House of Representatives that would repeal the Tan Tax. Congressman Mick Mulvaney, a Republican from South Carolina, introduced H.R. 4064, "The Keeping Promises to the Tax Payers Act of 2012." This bill repeals a number of tax provisions that were put in place as a part of the Health Care Reform legislation in 2010. There are currently 14 co-sponsors on this legislation. Like the Grimm legislation, this is not going to move independently, but we are clearly on the radar screen of another influential group of House members. This will be very important when the Republicans have the votes to address their priority issues. In regard to other legislation affecting this industry, Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME), the prime sponsor of Senate bill S.1278 to repeal the Tan Tax, announced she would not seek reelection to the United States Senate. This is unfortunate because Senator Snowe is a well-respected Republican moderate who serves on the Senate Finance Committee, the committee with jurisdiction over tax policy. We will miss her and will have to work to find another Senate champion in the new Congress. PLEASE JOIN THE ITA If you are not currently a member, please join today.
