INSPIRED IDEAS Lisa Parsons, Director of Sales and Education After five years with Devoted Creations, self-proclaimed Queen Bee Lisa Parsons continues to educate and support the indoor tanning industry with unwavering passion. In her interview with Smart Tan, she shares her excitement for the developments within Devoted Creations and the industry as a whole. Q: How did Devoted adapt to create new experiences at the Nashville conference? A: This year, there was a real noticeable difference in the attitude of attendees. They seemed especially focused on education and building relationships. In step with this trend, Devoted Creations set up an educational area in the back of our booth on the trade show floor instead of having a separate breakout room. This way, people could look at our products and get a full training session on them without ever leaving the floor. The results were amazing: With 70 seats and six training sessions, we didn't have a single open seat. It was amazing to see people standing in the back or sitting on the floor just to get in on the trainings. I think that more people got exposure to what our sessions are all about – some people even stopped in because they liked what they heard when they were passing by. The power of education is truly amazing and we love to give those opportunities to salons. 97 ❘ SMART TAN MAGAZINE ❘ SmartTan.com We also had Pauly D with us in Nashville to sign autographs and take pictures; that definitely changes the vibe of our booth. Pauly D is so friendly and approachable. He wanted to talk to every single person who came to see him. And at our Five Star Diamond after party, he wasn't in a private booth; he was just hanging out with people and taking pictures on the dance floor. He's just a personable guy who loves tanning, and he loves to meet people who like the product. Q: What's on the schedule next for Devoted Creations? We have a full tradeshow schedule that runs through the middle of February. We go to all of the distributor symposiums, not to mention all the training we do on the road. We're always busy with in store trainings! We do about 2,000 each year, not including those trade shows or web trainings. Q: What is unique about your in-store trainings? Instead of splitting up the country by region, we try to match salons with the right personality among our trainers. It allows us to really customize training to what the salon needs. Before we come out to their salon, we contact owners ahead of time to make sure we cover what is most important to them.
